Tools
FAO inhouse designed software and technology is available for partner institutions.
NEMS
The News and Events Management System (NEMS) is a dynamic multilingual, web-publishing software that allows organizations to easily update the news and listings areas of departmental and corporate websites. Users without html knowledge or webpage development skills can publish information directly on the Internet thanks to its user friendly design and simple workflow.
NEMS has been developed to manage information in Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish so that institutions can maximize their global presence on the Internet.
For more information on NEMS please see: http://www.fao.org/waicent/portal/software_en.asp#NEMS
EIMS
The Electronic Information Management System (EIMS) is an integrated system for managing electronic publishing workflow and cataloguing keywords and metadata within agricultural publications, WebPages and photo images.
EIMS was designed to improve the retrieval of documents using the FAO Information Finder and to create a decentralized approach to publishing valuable agricultural information on the World Wide Web.
EIMS is a user-friendly tool and creating an EIMS record only requires a basic understanding of a PC and its functions. The following instructions are a step-by-step guide aimed at giving all users the knowledge and capacity to successfully manage agricultural information from anywhere in the world.
For more information on EIMS please see: http://www.fao.org/waicent/portal/software_en.asp#EIMS
FAO Word Templates
The FAO-Templates were designed to assist users in creating a particular type of documents (such as FAO meeting documents) through the use of predefined styles, macros, toolbars and shortcuts.
These templates are based on SGML (Standard Generalised Markup Language), i.e. an international standard which is used to describe the general structure of different types of documents. It defines a methodology for "marking" the components of a document such as the title, the author, a graphic, the date or even specific categories of information such as headings and subheadings.
WebAGRIS
WebAGRIS is a complete, multilingual Web-based system for distributed data input, processing and dissemination (through the Internet or on CD-ROM), of agricultural bibliographic information. WebAGRIS also allows linking to documents that are available in electronic format. It is based on common standards of data input (meta-data standard data structure), and dissemination formats (export formats (XML, HTML, ISO2709)), as well as subject categorization schema and thesauri, i.e. AGROVOC.
Depending on the "architecture" of the production process and resources WebAGRIS can be used either as a local application or in a joint collection of information (through exporting, harvesting data, etc.).
WebAGRIS ensures:
-Database maintenance functions (data entry and update):password control; creation of new records; updating of existing records (selection from a list); validation by formats; display of authority data for a selection.
-Data dissemination functions: user friendly retrieval; sort, print and export options; searching through a number of databases; result paging; saving option for query history, etc.
More details and the current version for installation of WebAGRIS are now available at:
